Sidney H. Lunderville

Sidney H. Lunderville, age 89 of Durand, died Friday, June 19, 2015 at his cabin on Big Round Lake, Town of Balsam Lake, Polk County.

Sid was born on March 26, 1926 in the Naples Township, rural Mondovi. He was the son of Romeo and Mabel (Hill) Lunderville. When Sid was three, he moved with his mother to Durand and attended Durand High School. At age of 17, Sid enlisted in the U.S. Navy and fought in the Battles of Tarawa, Roi Namur, Guam and Siapan. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946. Sid married Donna Buchholtz on April 4, 1947 in Waukon, IA. After marriage they lived in Durand where they raised their family and Sid worked for Safeway Stores for 43 years. Sid also worked as part time as a painter, deputy sheriff and refereed high school boy basketball games.

Sid was a Boy Scout leader for many years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and was an avid Packer fan. In 1980, Sid fulfilled his retirement goal of building his cabin on Big Round Lake in Polk County. He loved spending time there with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sid is survived by his wife of 68 years; Donna, five children; Dixie (Ed) Heit of River Falls, Jeff of Menomonie, Ross (Rita) of Menomonie, Tootie (Don) Sinz of Durand and Brock (Karla) of Green Bay, 14 grandchildren; Jay (Liz), Curtis, Brent (Andrea), Schawn, Chad (Adrian), Amy Jo, Mike, Matt (Katie), Christy (Andy), Derek (Olivia), Jed (Jenny), Jamie (Arno), Alexis (Shane) and Aubrey, 19 great grandchildren, one brother-in-law; Rudy (Marie) Buchholtz, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son; Scott, one brother; Neil and one sister; Eileen Saxe.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, June 22, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in Durand. Rev. Michelle Nickodemus will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery with Military Honors at a later date. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 PM at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

All of our family are also grateful for the continuous definition of what a neighbor was and should be. He will always be missed.     Sid was always a good friend and taught me a lot as a young man. He worked for my Dad at Lakeside Butter company and Safeway foods. He, like my Dad was a Champion Butter maker and also like most there... Family.
