Guilford C. Schultz

Guilford C. Schultz died October 1, 2015, at age 87, in Tupelo MS.  Gil was born near Plum City WI in 1928, to Fred and Marie Schultz, the youngest of five sons.  He grew up on the home farm and graduated from Plum City High School in 1946.  He served in the US Navy from 1946-1948.  Gil married Marvel Olson in 1950 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plum City.  They lived in Plum City for ten more years, then moved to Arcadia WI, where he was the proprietor of Standard and Shell service stations.  In 1973, Gil and Marvel bought the Leland Insurance Agency in Arcadia, which they ran until 1989, when they sold the business and retired.   They moved to Leesburg, FL in 1997.  After Marvel died in 2000, Gil remained in Leesburg until December, 2014, when he moved to Tupelo to be closer to family due to declining health.

During his life, Gil enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, hunting, fishing, traveling and watching college & pro sports, and especially playing cards with friends.  Gil was a member of American Legion Post 17 in Arcadia, and while in Leesburg he served at over 400 funerals of veterans as part of an American Legion honor guard.

Gil is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law: Mark and Lory of Saltillo MS, and their children Kyle, Nicholas and Ethan; and Richard and Mary of Appleton WI, and their children Nathan and Laura.  Gil is also survived by sisters-in-law Maxine Schultz and LaVerle Moody, and brother-in-law Howard (Ruth Ann) Olson.  Gil was preceded in death by his wife Marvel, and his brothers Vainard, Frederick, Clenard and Leland.

A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plum City at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 14, 2015, with Rev. Daniel Pfaffe officiating.  Visitation will precede one hour before the memorial service.  Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Plum City.  Per Gil’s wishes, and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Legion Post 17 in Arcadia and to the Plum City Public Library.

    Hello Mark and family:
We wanted to extend our sympathy on the loss of your Father. Also sympathy from the entire American Legion Post 17. He truly was a great Veteran, as we read in the obit. that he served at over 400 funerals. We hope his military rite will serve him well too. God bless you all and may your fond memories sustain you during this difficult time.
    Your classmate, Dottie Seiler Myers

Mark and family...I remember your father when we were young in Plum City. You and I were about the same age and I lived a few doors up from you, past the church. I also did odd jobs for your grandparents, Fred and Marie, after you moved to Arcadia. Please accept my sympathy for your loss of your father.

Although I did not personally know Gil I had heard good things about him him and was so happy to hear he had married Marvel. I hope you are all at peace........
