Lila M. Spindler

Lila M. Spindler, age 81 of Eau Galle, died Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Pepin Health and Rehab in Pepin surrounded by her family.

Lila was born on May 2, 1934 in Menomonie to Louis and Jane (Styer) Knopps. She grew up in Menomonie and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1952. Lila married Charlie Spindler on September 1, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie. After marriage, Lila and Charlie took over the family farm on Hwy 10 in the Town of Durand, where they raised their family. Lila was an active member of the Holy Rosary Church and PCCW. She was a founder of the original Lima Cook Book. In 1985, Lila and Charlie moved to their home on Lake Eau Galle, where they lived for the last 30 years. In June, Lila joined Charlie at the Pepin Health and Rehab in Pepin, where she remained the rest of her life.

One of Lila’s highlights in her life was her hosting the family at the lake home every summer, on weekends and holidays. She enjoyed baking and cooking, she will also be remembered for her homemade cinnamon rolls. Lila took pride in her garden and raspberries, she made homemade grape and dandelion wine. She enjoyed going with Charlie to the casinos and playing cards with friends.

Lila is survived by her husband of 62 years; Charlie, six children; Kris (Craig) Unser of Durand, Sue Greuel of Eau Claire, Rod (Missie), Pat (Tom) Trainor, Bob (Leah), Michelle (Brad) Olsen, all of Durand, one daughter-in-law; Sandy (John) Andress of Durand, 17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two sisters; Phyllis Miller of Madison and Doris Corbett of Staples, MN, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and three children; Mary (stillborn), Michael, and David Spindler.

Memorial Mass will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima in Durand with Rev. Paul Bosco officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the church on Saturday.
