Peter H. Schumacher

Peter H. Schumacher

Peter H. Schumacher age 90 of Elk Mound, passed away peacefully at his home on December 25, 2015.

Pete was born March 11, 1925 at home in the Township of Springbrook, Dunn County.  He was the son of Peter Nicholas and Clara (Meyer) Schumacher and lived his entire life in the Elk Mound community.

Pete was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to so many.  Family, faith and farming, are the bedrock principles Pete embraced fully.  He married Lucille Pavelski on June 26, 1952 at St. James Catholic Church in Eau Claire. He was an avid fisherman, voracious reader, lover of horses and all animals great and small. Besides farming for all his life, Peter also worked for Fall Creek Mutual Insurance as an Agent and served on the Board of Directors.

Above all Pete loved Lucille, his wife of 63 years, his sons, Pete “Bucko” and Joe and his four daughters, Susie, Julia, Jackie, and Betty.  Pete cherished his sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, who he treated as his own, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He loved nothing more than a house full of family, laughing and playing, all crowded around him in his big easy chair.  Pete was very active in his church, and his faith carried him through good times and bad.  He was a lifelong member of the Elk Mound community, helping mentoring many less fortunate.  He was a trusted, reliable friend whose home and kitchen table were always open and welcoming to all.  Pete will be dearly missed, but his presence and spirit will remain with all of us.

Pete is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucille, his children, Susan (Dan) Sivertson of Elk Mound, Julia (John) Oleinik of Camas, WA, Peter (Jeri) Crystal Lake, IL; Jackie (Josh) Mayers of Verona, Betty (Richard) Bork of Fountain City; 15 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one on the way, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Tommy and Joseph, two brothers, Arthur and Paul, and one sister Kathryn Nelson.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday December 29, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elk Mound with Rev. Joseph Nakwah & Rev. Henry Hoerburger officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Condolences

  1. Linda L McRae

Dear Peter (Bucko), your mom siblings, and all,

I am just hearing this news of your Dad and I am so very sorry.

You might know we lost Dad in 1980 and Mom in late 2002, just a few days from her late December birthday, but Chritmas day is tough,

Of course It's never easy. There are so many memories, good and not so much. Hopefully few of the latter; May the good stay close in your heart and mind, and the other fade and be forgiven.

I know that your Dad and your family made a big difference on my nephew, Peter. He grew to be a fine man with strong work values after working on your family farm one summer. After a few years in the Army he married and is a firefighter and diver with the Greensboro, NC fire department.

I remember how my family picked up milk and cream from your farm regularly. It was fun for me. Hell, I even churred butter from that cream!.

Your dad would bring "fertilizer" sometimes for Mom's big backyard garden, sure to produce a good crop.
I suspect he may have worn a Santa suit a time or two for us kiddies at the Catholic church??

And of course the escapades of Peter, Mike, and Linda . . .

My condolences and best wishes for you all.

    Linda McRae

    sorry for your loss

  6. Barry McRae

I'm certain the family are grieving at Pete's passing but he lived a good full life and has left them with blessed memories.

I never forget the summer during high school that I helped out on the farm and building the new barn. One day while laying the roof boards and about halfway up to the top, I got wobbly knees. Pete didn't criticize or make fun of me but just gently said, "That's OK, Barry. Go down until you feel ready to come backup." And of course, Lucille's scrumptious dinners were something to look forward to each day!

    God bless you all.
