Janet M. Strand

Janet M. Strand, age 63 of Rock Falls, died Thursday, March 03, 2016 at her home in Rock Falls.

Janet was born on October 31, 1952 in Durand. She was the daughter of Victor and Irene (Wagner) Schuh. Janet grew up in Durand and graduated from Durand High School. She attended beauty school in Eau Claire and worked for the House of Beauty in Durand. Janet married Robert Strand on January 17, 1976 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. After marriage they moved to Alaska where she worked at a beauty shop in Fairbanks. In 1979, Janet and Robert moved to Rock Falls, where she ran a beauty shop out of her home and raised her family. In the late 1990’s, Janet became a Home CNA for handicapped children in the Eau Claire area until retiring due to her health.

Janet enjoyed carving wood, she was famous for her carved Santa Clauses. She also liked quilting and sewing. Most of all, Janet loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her husband of 40 years; Bob, two sons; Nick (Theresa) of Rock Falls and Chad of Rock Falls, two granddaughters; Ashlyn Marie and Olvia Strand, her mother; Irene Schuh of Durand, two brothers; David Schuh of Durand and Jimmy (Barb) Schuh of Rochester, MN, three sisters; Rosey (Harvey) Bignell of Port Lavaca, TX, Lois (Terry) Goss of Rogers, MN and Joyce (Larry) Sobotta of Nelson, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, one son, Robby in infancy and sister-in-law, Connie Schuh.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 4-8 PM at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand with a Prayer Service at 7:30 PM.

    So Sorry to hear about Janet. I don't know what she died from, but she is at peace now. I wish she had come to the funeral of Bill's or Edna so Marie and I could have talked to her a little bit. She will always be in our memories now.

    Bob….our condolences on the loss of Janet. She and I were the same age as well as Durand graduates. We were swim buddies at Golds Gym and I new the effort Janet put in to staying healthy. She loved life and those grandchildren! Gary remembers when you drove truck for the farm. Take care…our thoughts are with you and your family.
