David K. Sol

David K. Sol

David Kenneth Sol, age 56 of Elk Mound, died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN with his family by his side.

David was born on July 8, 1959 in Durand. He was the son of Kenneth and Gloria (Pickerign) Sol. David grew up in the Menomonie area and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1979. After high school, David went to work on the family farm where he enjoyed taking care of his pig operation of farrow to finish. David married Patty M. Ziehl on May 5, 1984 at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie. Together, they continued to farm on the family farm and raise their three daughters. David enjoyed nature and being outdoors. David and Patty sold their portion the farm in 1997 and moved their family to Osceola where he became a welder for Polaris.

David maintained his connection to the outdoors by being an avid member of the Osceola Snowmobile Club and groomed trails there for 5 years. He loved snowmobiling with his brother Jeff and close friends. His adventurous side drew him to snowmobile mountain climbing in Wyoming and during the summers, he rode 4-wheelers and took motorcycle trips throughout the U.S. and into Canada.

David and Patty later moved to Eau Claire and eventually settled down in Elk Mound with their daughter Dawn and her family, where David enjoyed being “Papa Day Care” for his granddaughters. He loved spending summers, especially the 4th of July and some Christmases, at their cabin with family and friends. Moonshine, Marshmallows and Campfires!

David is survived by his wife of 32 years, Patty, three daughters; Tammy Sol of Sheridan, WY, Dawn (Robert) Kelly of Elk Mound and Kimberly (Artem) Sol-Pechischeva of Big Sky, MT, two granddaughters; McKenzie and Olivia Kelly, his parents; Ken and Gloria Sol of Menomonie, one brother; Jeff (Diane) Sol of Menomonie, three sisters; Cindy (Neil) Hansen of Menomonie, Shari (Eugene) Jakes of Evansville and Debbie (Todd) Hintzman of Menomonie, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Rev. Jeanne Warner officiating. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery in the Town of Menomonie. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Tuesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
