Marian A. Vassar

Marian A. Vassar, age 84 of Menomonie, died Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Eau Claire with her family by her side.

Marian was born on December 31, 1931 in Florence. She was the daughter of Charles and Kathryn (Kavalski) Steddick. Marian grew up in Florence and graduated as salutatorian of her high school class in 1949. After high school, Marian worked as a bookkeeper for the Frigo Cheese Factory. Marian married Russell Vassar on June 24, 1950 in Florence. After marriage, they continued to live in Florence where Marian did bookkeeping and raised her family. In 1974, Marian and her family moved to Ironwood, MI for Russ’ job. Marian then went to work for Gogebic Mechanical as a bookkeeper. In 1994, both Marian and Russ retired and moved to Menomonie, where she remained the rest of her life.

Marian enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, cooking, shopping, watching birds and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Most of all, Marian loved visiting with family and friends.

Marian is survived by her husband of 66 years; Russ, five children; Brian (Lynn) of Ellijay, GA, Chuck (Terry) of Wisconsin Rapids, Cindy (Rich) Liebelt of Maple Grove, MN, Greg (Jan) of Burnsville, MN and Bruce of Edina, MN, 12 grandchildren; Mindy (Matt), Scott (Michele), Shane, Shelly, Andrew (Michelle), Robert (Danica), Ryan, Randy, Courtney, Crystal (Alex), Chad, and Stephanie, six great grandchildren; Coalten, Zoey, Paili, Aislynn, Jack and Levi, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister; Lois Godeck. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to, St. Joseph Catholic School in Menomonie, in memory of Marian.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Thursday, April 28, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie with Rev. James Kurzynski officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM Wednesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
