She was an advocate for the elderly.  She had her first paying job at the age of 81 for the Office on Aging and also rode the DET bus, assisting riders.  Advocating for people waiting for and using the bus, she was given the title “bench lady” for her part in having additional benches placed throughout Menomonie.

  5. Linda McRae

My Godmother. When I spoke with her at Mom's funeral I joked "so I guess this means I need to come live with you now." She didn't get the joke; perhaps she long ago forgot that commitment she and Tony made to my Mom and Dad at my baptism nearly 29 years ago. :-| Yes, 29. She has always had a special place in my heart and made me smile. In recent years on those rare occasions I met her she was always sure to pass along a message from Mike and I presume passed mine back.

To all of you, if not now, soon I hope a smile appears on your face as you think of her and your Dad.

    Many Hugs,

    Linda

I first met Tony/Dode/Mike Schrantz at their farm when I was tagging along with Pat Shannon as a young boy. They were very friendly as they chatted with Pat and treated me like a friend. After they moved to Eau Claire I would visit Mike and she would always engage me in conversation and always shared with me a glimpse of her faith. God bless you Dode as I'm convinced he welcomed you Home, and my Condolences to your Family in your passing on.

I am so sorry to learn of Dode's death. I have so many fond memories of her. She was a kid at heart. When we were in high school she joined us so often as a chaperone and also just as a mom who wanted to be with us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.
