Leona Rose Wright

Leona Rose Wright age 94 of Durand, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at The Neighbors of Dunn County Care Center in Menomonie with her family by her side.

Leona was born on November 7, 1921 in the Town of Maxville, rural Buffalo County.  She was the daughter of Louis and Agnes (Brantner) Berger. Leona grew up in Maxville and attended the Traun Bluff School. After school, Leona moved to Eau Claire to work at Sacred Heart Hospital until she met and married Orville Wright. They were married April 15, 1941 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Eau Claire. After marriage they lived in Eau Claire until 1950 when they moved to Salem, WI. In 1954 they spent a year in California before returning to Salem, where they remained until 1982 when the moved back home to Durand. Together they raised four daughters.

Leona was a member of the Durand Rhythm Band, volunteered at the school, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and taught CCD.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, dancing, music, gardening and knitting. Most of all Leona loved to spend time with family and friends.

Leona is survived by her children; Jean (Omar) Doughtery of Durand, Beverly (George) Howen of Long Lake, Rosanne (John) Glatczak, and Nancy (Robert) Pichler, both of Durand, 10 grandchildren; Darlene (Ken), Laura (Bruce), Kenneth (Amber), Rebecca, Steve, Andrea (Matt), Mark (Kim), Amber (Jeff), Scott (Bethany) and Colton, 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, four sisters; Dorothy Radle of Durand, Gladys (Roger) Bonesteel of Mondovi, Carol (Don) Schulte of Altoona and Rita McNaughton, brother-in-law; Roy Hoch of Mondovi, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Orville J., two sons in infancy; Kenneth and William, two sisters; Margaret Price and Eleanor Hoch and three brothers; Raymond Berger, Louis Berger and Fred Berger.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Saturday, August 27, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand with Rev. Paul Bosco officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 PM Friday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
