Edna A. Karshbaum

Edna A. Karshbaum

Edna A. Karshbaum passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire surrounded by family on October 10, 2016.

Edna was born to Albert O. and Ella (Heltne) Johnson on September 14, 1919 in the North Branch area in the Town of Nelson, rural Buffalo County.  Edna grew up in Durand and the highlight of her life was the one year she lived in Colorado Springs, CO as a child.  She married John L. Karshbaum on October 14, 1940 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima, rural Durand.    They took over the Karshbaum family farm in the Township of Lima.    Edna and John raised two daughters on the farm and enjoyed gardening.

Edna will be remembered for all the wonderful food she would make.   Christmas won’t be the same without her fudge and her dressing recipe has been passed down for generations.   No picnic was complete without her potato salad and she made the best lemon meringue and apple pies.    Edna loved to travel.   She visited almost every state and had a fondness for Disney World.   Edna enjoyed rides and walking around Disney World with her most recent visit being at the age of 90.   Edna was a kind soul who always put others first and was genuinely interested in others.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John L. Karshbaum, parents, and a brother John Johnson.

She is survived by daughters, Donna (Edward) Hempleman of Thorp and Joanne Karshbaum of Altoona,  Grandchildren, Deborah (Rick) Hanson, Gary Hempleman, Brian (Sarah) Hempleman,  James Hempleman, Michael (Malia) Karshbaum,  Jason (Carrie Pogodzinski) Hempleman, Lisa (Nate) Payton.   Seventeen Great Grandchildren and one great, great, grandson, Justus Syryczuk.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sacred Heart Hospital who provided comfort care and support to them.   Thank you also to the staff of Oak Gardens Place, you truly made it a comfortable home for Edna.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima in Durand with Rev. Paul Bosco officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
