Ilene F. Bates

Ilene F. Bates age 88 of Elmwood, died Tuesday December 13, 2016 at the Park View Home in Woodville.

Ilene was born July 31, 1928 in Rock Falls. She was the daughter of George and Mary (Berger) Fedie. Ilene’s childhood was spent in the Rock Falls area, she then moved to the Elmwood area with her family where she attended the Howison Country School. After school, Ilene moved to Eau Claire where she worked for a short while before taking a job with the Ed Bates family in Elmwood where she met her husband, James Bates. Ilene and James where married on October 25, 1949 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Eau Galle. After marriage, they farmed on the Bates home farm until 1951, when they purchased their own farm just down the road from the home farm. Ilene and Jim farmed and raised their family there until 1984 when they moved into Elmwood. For the past three years, Ilene has resided at the Comforts of Home in Menomonie.

Ilene enjoyed cooking, spending time and talking with her friends and family.

Ilene is survived by her four daughters, Linda (Jim) Kitchner of Baldwin; Susan Bates of St. Paul, MN; Lori (Arnie) Nelson of Baraboo; Mary Bates of Knapp; Five grandchildren, Jeffrey Kitchner of Hudson; Jennifer (Dustin) Timm of Wilson; Derek Nelson of Minneapolis, MN: Tara Nelson of Eau Claire and Tiffany Nelson of Oskosh; three great grandchildren, Remy Kitchner, Macie and Kendra Timm, one sister; Lucy Best of Eau Claire, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Husband James, five sisters, Anna Stai, Dorothy Bryce, Rose Dreysse, Marie Whitwam and Virginia Lecheler and one brother Florian Fedie.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 AM Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood with Rev. Prince Raja officiating. Burial will be in St. Henry’s Catholic Cemetery in Eau Galle. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the church on Saturday.
