Rosella M. Pickering

Rosella M. Pickering age 92 of Plum City, formerly of Durand, died Tuesday January 31, 2017 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City. 

Rosella was born March 12, 1924 in the Township of Lima, rural Durand.  She was the daughter of Ambrose and Mae (Schuh) Bauer and grew up in the Lima Community.  Later Rosella worked at Cal’s Restaurant in Durand and Presto in Eau Claire.  Rosella married Harvey O. Pickering January 28, 1946.  After marriage they lived in Arkansaw and Milwaukee for a short time before making their permanent home in Durand where they raised six children.

After Harvey’s death in 1980, Rosella moved to the Plummer Apartments in Durand.  She became a volunteer at the Oakview Care Center in Durand which she loved dearly.  Rosella volunteered her time for 20+ years.  She also learned to do Ballroom Dancing which she really enjoyed.  She also enjoyed playing Bingo and cards and keeping up with her scrapbooks. 

In May of 2008, Rosella became a resident of the Oakview Care Center.  While there she continued to help with Bingo and cards like she did when doing her volunteer work.  Rosella moved to the Plum City Care Center in January of 2015 where she has remained the rest of her life.

Rosella is survived by her children, Gary (Sue) of Durand, Rick (Sharon) of Mondovi, Cristan (Henry) Black of Durand, Teresa (Bill Riekemann) Herbison of Rock Falls; two daughters-in-law, Sue Pickering of Green Bay and Sharon Leirmo of Durand; 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; one brother Norbert Bauer of Durand; two sisters, Lillian Drier of Arkansaw and Arlinda Plumer of Holcomb; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvey, two sons, Jim and Dale, a grandson Jared Pickering, a granddaughter, Miccayla Rose Doughty, a sister Loretta Meixner; four brothers, Raymond, Laverne, Lambert and Bernard Bauer.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday February 4, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand with Rev. John Schultz officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, ending with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM, at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
