David J. Gifford

David J. Gifford

David J. Gifford, age 79 of Plum City, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 13, 2017 at his home.

David was born on September 22, 1937 in the Town of Pepin, rural Pepin County.  He was the son of James A. and Agnes (Hotter) Gifford. David went to Plum City Elementary School and Plum City High School, graduating in 1956. After graduation, David farmed with his father James Gifford and shortly thereafter purchased the family farm. David married his best friend of six years, Betty A. Schladweiler February 27, 1965 in the Twin Cities.

David never considered farming to be an occupation, to him it was a way of life.  Upon being asked when he’d be ready to retire, his response was always, “This is my hobby and it’s what I want to do.” David had a great sense of humor and along with his ‘gift of gab’ enjoyed time with family and friends.

David is survived by his two children; Sue (fiancé Dave Greenwell) Krumenauer of Cedarburg and Dianna (Paul) Breen of Madison, two grandchildren; Kelsey and Sean, two brothers; James “Jim” (Clara) of Durand and DeWayne of Eau Claire, one sister; Sharon (Kenneth) Trainor of Elmwood, two brothers-in-law; Robert Krogstad of Eau Claire and Harold “Butch” Bechel of Plum City, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Betty, son-in-law; Jeff Krumenauer, two sisters; Patricia Krogstad and Linda Bechel; one brother; Ken Gifford.

A celebration of life will be held at Molly’s, Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 4pm – 8pm.

Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Plum City at a later date.

Rhiel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Durand, is serving the family.

Our condolences to you Sue & Dianna and family. There's never enough time to be spent with those we love. Your Dad's passion was your farm and it showed.

  5. Robert Freiberg & Barbara Freiberg

We are Faith's grandparents and last evening Brandon told us his uncle passed away. We are so sorry. So difficult to lose them both in such a short time. Wishing you peace and that God's arms are surrounding you.

  6. Barb (Rhiel) Steenerson

Dave and Betty and you girls were the best neighbors anyone could ever ask for. Growing up next to your family was a great experience. I loved watching the 2 of you girls grow up. Your mom and dad were a fantastic team...they will both be missed greatly. Love you both and think of you often. So sorry for your loss.
