She was a full-time helper on the farm and was especially proud of her pickle patch. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidering dish towels and playing cards. The most memorable of their trips is when she was able to travel to Tromso, Norway and they were able to visit the farmstead of her great-grandfather. She was active at Rock Creek Lutheran Church as a member of the ladies aid, the quilting group and was also a leader of the Luther League. Anytime there was a meal to be served in the church basement, they would call on Doris.
