Carol J. Kern

Carol J. Kern, age 86 of Durand, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City with her family by her side.

Carol was born in Dunnville area of rural Dunn County on December 17, 1931. She was the daughter of Otto and Eunice (Weber) Buchholtz. Carol grew up in the Dunnville and Eau Galle areas. She worked as a waitress at her mother’s restaurant in downtown Durand for several years. Carol married Howard L. “Smokey” Kern on May 8, 1950 at St. Mary Catholic Church. After marriage, they lived in Durand and raised their family. Carol worked with and touched many young lives doing day care out of her home for many years.

Carol is survived by her children; Sue (Kurt) Richardson of Arkansaw, Mary Jo (John) Gilles of Eaton, CO and Jill (Tim) Herbst of Arkansaw, grandchildren; Renee (Rick) Heintz, Jamie (Trevor) McBeth, Amber (Brian) Ritchey, Luke (Bailey Sherwin) Herbst, Kayla Richardson, Lynsay (Dustin) Holt,  Lacey (Mike) Raiche, nine great grandchildren (and one on the way), sister-in-law; Myrna Buchholtz of Durand, nieces, nephes, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Smokey, two granddaughters; Julie Richardson and Brianna Gilles and four brothers.

Memorial Services will be 11:30 AM Thursday, October 4, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand with Rev. Paul Bosco will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30AM until the time of services at the church on Thursday.
