John R Hovland
John R. “Bucko” Hovland, age 63 of Durand, died Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Advent Health in Durand after battling health issues for years.
John was born September 13, 1960 in Durand. He was the son of Walter and Shirley (Davis) Hovland. John spent his whole life in Durand, graduating from Durand High School and worked for Goodrich’s for many years. His career took him to Cardinal FG in Menomonie where he worked for 27 years until his health forced him to retire. John married René Sobottka on May 22, 1993, in Durand. Together they continued to live in Durand where they raised their family. In 1996, John joined the Durand Fire Department where he served the community of Durand and continued to serve as an active Senior Member of the Durand Fire Department.
John liked spending time outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping up north at Otter Lake Campground. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and his dog, Jagermeister.
John is survived by his wife of 30 years René, sons Nicholas (Nicholle) and Eric, both of Durand, two grandchildren Sienna and Landon, siblings Walt (Chrissy) Hovland of Pulaski, PA, Connie (Pete) Anderson of Arkansaw, Pat (Bob) Cataract of Durand and Cindy (Jim) Huber of Alma, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00PM-7:00PM Monday November 6, 2023 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand. Prayer services will be held at 6:45PM at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand with Rev. Daniel Pfaffe officiating.
