Harry E Halvorson

Harry Eugene Halvorson passed away on December 17, 2013 at his home in Colfax.

Harry was born in North Menomonie, WI on November 2, 1923 to George Halvorson and Katherine (Dietsche) Halvorson. He attended Ideal School, St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1941.

In 1942 Harry entered the US Navy and served on the USS Otis, a submarine tender and the USS Stormes, a destroyer in the Pacific Theater. While stationed in Seattle, WA he met Martha (Marty) Herzog and they were married on April 26, 1947. They came back to Menomonie while Harry attended UW-Stout and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Education in 1951. He worked for Honeywell in the Twin Cities as an Industrial Engineer, retiring in 1982, and served as a consulting engineer for Honeywell after his retirement. He also worked for Burroughs in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in engineering.

Marty passed away in 1998. Harry then met Teresa Stark and they married in December of 2008. They enjoyed dancing, music, gardening, their families and each other, until his death.

Harry leaves behind his wife Teresa Stark-Halvorson, daughters; Karen Halvorson-Falk (Bob) Falk of Colfax, WI and Karla Halvorson (Gary Natysin) of Champlin, Minnesota, and Teresa’s five children and their families, and a brother Bill (Pat) Halvorson of Naples, FL., along with many nieces and nephews.

Harry was the President of the Minneapolis Horse Shoe League in the 1970’s. He played the guitar with the Olde Tyme Fiddlers, and other groups, entertaining at various Nursing Homes and assisted Living homes in the area. Harry loved playing and collecting music. He was also a lifelong member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marty in 1998, a brother Keith Halvorson (Liz) of Seattle, WA in 1994. Harry was a gentle giant of a man and a wonderful husband. He was also the sweetest, most caring Father two daughters could ever imagine. He was there for everyone with his kindness, his dedication to whatever he was doing, and his faith.
