Clare T Brantner

Clare T. Brantner age 90 of Durand, died Saturday, December 28, 2013 at his home in rural Durand with his family by his side.

Clare was born on August 11, 1923 on the family farm in rural Durand and was the son of Leopold T. and Marie (Anibas) Brantner. He grew up in the Durand area attended the Oak Hill Country School and Sacred Heart School in Lima. Clare hauled logs for several years before joining his parents on the Brantner farm, where he farmed the rest of his life. He married Geraldine G. “Gerri” Bauer on September 16, 1947 at Holy Rosary Church in Lima. After marriage they took over the farm where they raised their family. Clare retried from most of his farming duties in 1992 and went to work for Huntsinger’s Farms in Mondovi for several years.

Clare enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, playing cards and dancing. Many people knew Clare by his homemade horseradish and Chinese cabbage. Most of all, he loved to spend time with family and friends.

Clare is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gerri, eight children; Colleen (Allen) Anderson of Plum City, Greg (Julie) of Durand, Jeff (Sharon) of Arkansaw, Pam (Larry) LaPean of Hudson, Lee of Durand, David (Lisa) of River Falls, Kevin of Rock Falls and Gary (Nicki) of Durand, 24 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, two brothers; James (Connie) of Prescott and Bernard (Irma) of Durand, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law; Leylon Brantner, two grandchildren; Ilene Brantner and Ryan Anderson and one sister; Betty Webb.
