Edward L "Ed" Sabelko

Edward L. “Ed” Sabelko Sr., age 88 of Menomonie, formerly of Durand, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at The Neighbors of Dunn County Care Center in Menomonie with his family by his side.

Ed was born on August 19, 1925 in the Township of Lima, rural Durand. He was the son of Charles Sr. and Julia (Bauer) Sabelko. Ed grew up in the Lima area and attended country school and Sacred Heart School in Lima. After school, he worked for several area farms. Ed married Betty Hofacker on May 24, 1949 in Eau Galle. After marriage they farmed in the Eau Galle area for five years before moving to the Fox Valley area of the Town of Durand, where they farmed for many years. Betty passed away in 1990. He retired from farming and sold most of the farm in 1992. Ed later married Marlene Baier on July 16, 1994 in Elmwood. They continued to live in Fox Valley. In November of 2010, Ed and Marlene moved to Menomonie where he remained the rest of his life.

Ed enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling and dancing. Most of all, he loved to spend time with family and friends.

Ed is survived by his wife; Marlene, six children; Don (LuAnn), Steve (Cindy), both of Prescott, Jim (Teresa), Ed Jr. (Sally), both of Durand, Roger (LaVey) of Pepin and Nancy (Dennis) Wolfe of Stockholm, seven step-children; Jeff Baier of Elmwood, Julie (Bill) Richardson of Spring Valley, Judy (Jim) Stoikes, Jill (Tom) Bennwitz, both of Verona, Bev (Bill) Cook of Jackson, Jim Baier of Elmwood and John (Dianne) Baier of Arcadia, 15 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren, two brothers; Charles (Elaine) and Ralph (Janice), both of Durand, three sisters; Kathleen Kelly of Menomonie, Dorothy (Don) Klein of Durand and Juliana (Herb) Tschumperlin of Plum City, one sister-in-law; Lucyann Sabelko of Durand, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Betty, one grandson; Jeremy Sabelko, one great grandson; Ethan Schmitt, two brothers; Hubert and William, brother-in-law; Bill Kelly and one sister-in-law; Blondie Sabelko.
