Joan F. Bauer

Joan F. Bauer, age 72 of Arkansaw, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Eau Claire, with her family by her side after courageous two year battle with cancer.

Joan was born on May 18, 1941 at home in Spring Creek of rural Buffalo County. She was the daughter of Frances and Helen (Hayden) Brunner. Joan attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, St. Mary’s Catholic School and Durand High School. After school, Joan worked for the Durand Hospital for a couple of years. Joan married Bernard “Bud” Bauer on July 2, 1962 at St. Mary’s Church in Durand. They farmed and raised their family in the Big Arkansaw Valley in the Town of Waterville. Joan worked as an advisor for the Catholic Financial Life Plum City/Arkansaw Branch for 30 years.

Joan was a member of the Arkansaw Homemakers, St. Ann’s Altar Society and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed her flowers, baking, canning, cooking and taking trips around the country. Most of all, Joan loved to spend time with family and friends.

Joan is survived by her husband of 51 years, Bud, five children, Connie Ahlers of Maiden Rock, Brad (friend Annie Konsela) of Arkansaw, Bryan (Lori) of Durand, Barry (Miranda) of Eau Claire and Colleen (Eric) Glenna of Stillwater, MN, 11 grandchildren, one brother; Steve (Darlene) Brunner of Durand, one brother-in-law; DuWayne Stratton of Durand, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law; Earl Ahlers, one brother; Roger Brunner and one sister; Linda Stratton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 AM Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arkansaw. Rev. Paul G. Czerwonka will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
