Elizabeth F. "Bette" Matula
Elizabeth F. “Bette” Matula, age 77 of Hastings, formerly of Durand, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings with her family by her side.
Elizabeth was born on March 25, 1937 in the Town of Lima. She was the daughter of John and Margaret (Brantner) Davis and grew up in the Durand area. After an accident to her mother, Elizabeth stepped in to raise her brothers and sisters. Elizabeth worked for a short while at the Durand Canning Factory and as a waitress at the Durand Café. She married Lawrence “Pit” Plumer and they later divorced. Elizabeth then married Jerome Matula in Newport, MN where they later divorced. Since 1976, Elizabeth has been living in Newport, MN.
Elizabeth enjoyed doing crafts, puzzles and music. She was a Den-mother for the Cub Scouts and enjoyed keeping things tidy. Elizabeth loved sharing stories of her family with everyone. Most of all, she liked to spend time with family and friends.
Elizabeth is survived by her children; Rick (Tammy) Plumer of Hastings, MN, Debbie (Rick) Traun of Plum City, Pat (Becky) Plumer of Hudson, Joe “Jim” (Luanne) Plumer of Rosemount, MN and Laurie (Richard) Rieck of Maplewood, MN, 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren with one on the way, two brothers; John (Darlene) Davis of Darien, IL and Jim (Ann) Davis of Pepin, two sisters; Sandy (Steve) Westberg of Stockholm and Mary (Bill) Linder of Prescott, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother; Gary and one sister; Shirley Hovland.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand. Rev. Raj Arockiam will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Friday at the Rhiel Funeral Home and from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home on Saturday.
