Dorothy M. Hartung

Dorothy M. Hartung, age 92 of Arkansaw, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Oakview Care Center in Durand, with her family by her side.

Dorothy was born on October 1, 1921 in Arkansaw. She was the daughter of Joseph and Luella (Mulheron) Auth. Dorothy grew up in the Arkansaw area and graduated from Arkansaw High School. After graduation, she worked in the telephone office in Arkansaw. Dorothy married Harland Hartung on November 4, 1941 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arkansaw. They lived in Milwaukee for a short time before returning home to Arkansaw, where they owned and operated Hartung’s Grocery Store. Together, Dorothy and Harland ran the business until 1982, when they sold the business and retired.

In retirement, Dorothy and Harland enjoyed spending their winters in Holiday, FL for 15 years. They also had a cabin in Northern Wisconsin. Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and an active member of the Altar Society. Most of all, she loved to spend time with family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her six children; Mary (Doug) Fesenmaier of Elmwood, Robert (Miriam) of Edina, MN, Lois (Michael) Helmueller of River Falls, Edward of Bradenton, FL, Joanne (Larry) Schultz of River Falls and Jerry (Judy) of Arkansaw, 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Harland, one granddaughter; Angela Schultz, three brothers; Jerry, Ray and Jim Auth, three sisters; Margaret Heit, Sr. Marion Auth and Geraldine Koller.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 25, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arkansaw. Rev. Paul G. Czerwonka will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Sunday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
