Clarence L. Pittman

Clarence L. Pittman, age 96 of Plum City died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the River Falls Area Hospital in River Falls with his family by his side.

Clarence was born on July 29, 1918 on the Pittman family farm near Eau Galle. He was the son of Joseph and Mary (Pfeiffer) Pittman. Clarence grew up in the Eau Galle area, attended Eau Galle School and graduated from Durand High School in 1936. After high school, Clarence farmed with his father in Eau Galle. Clarence married Mildred Weiss on August 31, 1943 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima rural Durand. In 1944, they purchased a farm in Plum City where they farmed and raised their family. Clarence was a successful dairy farmer and always had enough work to keep the family busy.  In 1978 Clarence’s son, Mel took over the farm and Clarence continued to help out for the next 20 years. In 2011, Clarence moved to Welcome Home Assisted Living in Elmwood, where he remained the rest of his life.

Clarence was active in the Pierce County Farm Bureau for many years. He loved to travel, making it to almost every state in the United States and even to Europe. Clarence also liked to play cards, bingo and listen to old time music. In retirement, Clarence enjoyed gardening, growing potatoes and watermelons.

Clarence is survived by his children; Michael (Darla) of Plum City, Sharon (Vance) Harris of Plymouth, MN, Barbara (John) Schneider of Maiden Rock, Greg (Jolaine) of Waseca, MN, Don (Barb) of Red Wing, MN, Mary (Bruce) Norgard of St. Paul, MN, Mel (Patricia) of Plum City, Monica of Eau Claire, Tom (Kristi) of Ocala, FL, Dale (Mary) of Franklin, Daniel (Pam) of South St. Paul, MN, Philip (Mary) of Alexandria, MN and Stephanie (Kevin) Larson of River Falls, 38 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, two brothers; Laurence of Durand and Ralph of Eau Galle, two sisters; Catherine Anderson of Waukesha and Beatrice (Eugene) Falkner of Menomonie, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; one son, Brian; four grandchildren, Robert, Troy, Elizabeth and Amber.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, January 2, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood. Rev. Kevin C. Louis STL will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Plum City. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
