Patricia A. Sobota

Patricia A. Sobota, 69, of Wilson, died Sunday, January 4, 2015, at the Baldwin Area Medical Center in Baldwin.

Pat was born March 21, 1945, in Michigan.  She was the daughter of Lawrence and Carol (Diebold) Fleming.  Pat was the oldest of nine children and was raised by her mother and step father, William Baumler, in Louisville, KY.  She attended Holy Family Grade School and graduated from Loretto High School, both in Louisville.  At the age of 19, Pat moved to New York and studied Fashion Merchandising and worked as a Buyer for Bacon’s Dept. Store.  Pat joined AmeriCorps VISTA, (Volunteers in Service to America) and was working in Arkansas where she met the love of her life, Mark J. Sobota.  They were married November 8, 1969, in Little Rock, AR.  After marriage they relocated to Wheaton, IL where their son John and daughter Amy were born. Pat and Mark moved to Wilson, WI in 1973, where they raised their family.  Besides being a mother, Pat was always the entrepreneur, starting Glazer Score stained glass, furniture upholstering, and chair caning businesses.

Pat has been a Broker/Owner of Andale Real Estate in Menomonie since 1987.  She was a Certified Residential Specialist, and a member of the Graduate Realtors Institute.  Pat has served as President of her local board of Realtors, and two terms as Vice President of the Wisconsin Realtors Association.  She has taught real estate classes at UW-Stout and the Chippewa Valley Technical College in Menomonie and Eau Claire.

Pat has served on the Board of Directors of the Menomonie Rotary Club, Menomonie Chamber of Commerce, Hospice Board, Community Foundation of Dunn County, First Bank & Trust, Mabel Tainter Theater; and numerous other committees committed to making our community the best!  She has been recognized by her peers as “Realtor of the Year” and received numerous awards for her volunteer efforts in the community.

“I’ve done many interesting, some might say ‘fascinating and daring’ things in my life, but nothing can compare to my life as a Grandmother.  What a treasure to have seen each one of them come into the world, and each one has loved me in their own special way, unconditionally.  My children and their spouses have blessed me with all of these children, who became my best friends.”

Pat is survived by her husband of 45 years, Mark and two children, John (Jill) Sobota and Amy (Doug) Hastings both of Menomonie, WI and eight grandchildren between the ages of four and fifteen; Noah, Gabrielle, Haley, Emma, Sophia, Lily, Addison, and Victoria; two sisters Sandra Bissmeyer of Louisville, KY, Martha Fisher of Ocala, FL; five brothers, John Fleming, George Baumler, Jay Baumler, Hans Baumler, all of Louisville, KY, Fritz Baumler of  Florida and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, Jan 12, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie, WI with burial at a later date at St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery in Wilson, WI.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Our congregation (Menomonie United Methodist church) is still enjoying the lovely stained glass window which Pat designed and installed in our new church in 1978. The theme is "The Parable of the Sower." She was a talented artist. Our prayers are with your family.

  7. Jennifer and Dean Schley

Heartbreaking news. So sorry to hear of this and we send our condolences to her family. Pat was our real estate agent when we moved to Menomonie in 1996, but we kept in touch with her here and there throughout time since then. Pat had a shining personality and always took time to chat whenever we'd stop in. We most recently (about a year ago) ran into her at Joann Fabrics in Eau Claire and she was buying items to make something for the grandkids. She would just light up when talking about them. When we first met her there were no grandchildren, and it was always so nice to see her beam whenever another one came along.

I would have loved to have been able to keep in touch more closely with her over the years, but each little chat session we had was like no time had passed. Pat will be missed very much and we both hope that the memories you have made over the years will help you weather the difficulties of her passing.

    Much love,

    Jen & Dean

Mark, John, and Amy - Please except my deepest sympathy with the passing of your wife and mother. I came upon the news and immediately recalled her friendly personality when she walked John into our classroom for his first day of kindergarten. I still have her white almond sugar cookie recipe and the re-caned youth family rocking chair. I have thought of you all over the years. Celebrate her life. Bless you all.

Oh my, how I will miss my dear friend, Pat! She took me around to look for houses when I first interviewed at Stout in 1988. Her warm personality made us friends from the start! She was a rare gem of a lady and I was very blessed to have known her. It didn't take long to learn that her family was the center of her life and I enjoyed all the stories she shared with me about you all! I sincerely hope that fond memories of happier times with Pat will help you through this difficult time. God Bless you all!

  20. Jane Gobler

I'm so very sorry to hear of Pat's passing. When I started working in Menomonie she was very welcoming and when I moved to Eau Claire she supported my need to be closer to my family. She did everything with such grace and kindness. Heaven has truly gained a wonderful angel.

  21. Jackie Hunt

My thoughts and prayers are with the Sobota family at this most difficult time. There aren't words to express the loss of Pat. She will be greatly remembered. She ran an impeccable business and was an awesome friend. In 2003, Pat sold me the site that my office complex is located on. I donated the house that was on this site to Pat & we laughed for many years about the cost of moving her “free” house to its new spot across from the fire station in North Menomonie. I always told Pat that I would buy my 1st Menomonie home from Andale Realty & we accomplished that in June 2014. She touched many lives both professionally and personally. I treasured her as my best friend taking me under her wing to bounce business ideas around. She loved talking about Mark, the kids, and the grandkids. I enjoyed sharing time with her. She was very positive and liked her new hair style when I visited her last week.

  22. Mark & Jennifer Schneider

We bought our house with Pat's assistance back in 1985, she has been a friend since that day. She was a very sweet person and will be missed.

  23. Marge Hebert

With deepest sympathy to the Sobota family in the loss of Pat. She was a beautiful person both inside and out. I was always envious of her classy style and her positive attitude. She will truly be missed.

  24. Rosemarie Bristol

My deepest condolences at the passing of Pat. She was such a strong, professional, and kind woman and an excellent REALTOR. She has helped innumerable young agents become the better in the field and was always willing to guide them in the industry. She was a lovely person, both inside and out. Her absence will leave a great void in many lives. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours as you deal with the loss of her passing. . .

  25. Nicholas Miller

I remember Pat Sobota very fondly. She was always willing to offer an experienced and knowledgeable hand in any situation. I particularly remember her efforts at the church in Wilson where she did many things including organizing the decorating for Christmas which always turned out amazing when she added her special touch. She will be missed dearly. Sending my love and condolences to all those she has blessed with her smile.
