Adah H. Hooker

Adah H. Hooker, age 96 of Durand, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Pepin Health and Rehab Center in Pepin with her family by her side.

Adah was born on February 19, 1918 in Pepin. She was the daughter of Melvin and Christina (Skildum) Johnson. Adah grew up in the Pepin area and graduated from Pepin High School in 1936. After high school, Adah worked as a waitress in her uncle’s establishment, the Pepin Hotel and Dining Room. On September 7, 1938 Adah married Paul Hooker at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Alma. After marriage, they lived in Durand and raised their family. Paul died on August 25, 2000.

Adah was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Church, the PCCW and for many years, she was chairman and co-chairman for St. Catherine’s Group. She enjoyed working at the different church dinners. Adah was a member of the Pepin County Historical Society in Durand. Over the years she enjoyed taking out of town relatives to visit there with them. Adah and Paul enjoyed being volunteers there.

Adah is survived by her children; Melva (Eldon) Faast of Pearland, TX, Brenda (Henry) Fedie of Rockford, IL, Paula Meixner of Menomonie, Donna (Michael) Miles and Paul W. “Bill” (Jean), both of Durand, one son-in-law; David Lussier of Novi, MI, 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, one brother; Mike (Nancy) Johnson of Hastings, MN, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Paul, one daughter; Linda Lussier, one grandson and one great grandson, one brother; Miles Johnson and six sisters; Wilma Fischer, Mary Jane Stampone, Faith Stampone, Margie Severson, Deedee Hood and Bessie Jelen.

Funeral Mass will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. Rev. Eric Linzmaier will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 PM Monday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
