Hubert L. Bauer

Hubert L. Bauer, age 93 of Durand, died Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City.

Hubie was born on October 18, 1924 to John and Bertha (Poeschel) Bauer on the family farm. He attended school at Sacred Heart School in Lima. After School, Hubie went to work on the family farm. On August 9, 1948, Hubie married Rosemary Osweiler at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima. After marriage, Hubie and Rosemary farmed and started their family and raised nine children. Near the end of his farming career, Hubie did construction work. He continued doing construction until his retirement.

Hubie enjoyed listening to music, and liked to dance. He also enjoyed playing cards and fishing. Most of all, Hubie loved to spend time with family and friends.

Hubie is survived by his children; Marilyn (Lynn) Hoven of Houlton, Pat (Marcia) of Durand, Hubie Jr. (Jody) of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Bob (JoAnn) of Rock Falls, Donald of Downsville, John of South St. Paul, MN and Tom of Turtle Lake, 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, two sisters; Lucy Ann Sabelko of Durand and Veronica Nielen of Cudahy, sister-in-law; Helen Bauer of Durand, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Rosemary, two sons; Leonard and Roger, one grandson; Corey, one brother; William and four sisters; Mary Schaeffer, Ann Weissinger, Barb Dekan and Emma Bauer.

Funeral Mass will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima in Durand. Rev. Paul Bosco will officiate. Private family burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM until the time of services at the church on Tuesday.

Rhiel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Durand, is serving the family.

    So sorry to hear of Hubie's passing. I will miss his smiling face at the care center. He used to help the ladies prepare the snack time treats and always proudly said he did the dishes afterward.

    Our family knew him way back in the days when my mom and dad owned Slama's Superette. He has always been one of our favorites.

    Gosh, it's been quite a few years, I remember doing haying at the farm so we could all go out and play on weekends. Sure made the work more fun when we were all in it together.
