Walter W. Fuhrman, age 86 of Elmwood, died Wednesday, December 03, 2008 at the Heritage of Elmwood Care Center in Elmwood.

He was the son of Paul and Emma (Moritz) Fuhrman and was born May 26, 1922, and raised in Elmwood. Walter attended the Hall rural School and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in the Town of Eau Galle, which is the present day site of the cemetery. After school, he farmed for many years before switching to building houses and woodworking. Walter was also the Township assessor for many years.

Walter was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed taking trips to various parts of the country. He was an avid reader and kept extensive climatic records for the area. Walter was an area history buff and loved to talk about the “old days.”

Walter is survived by his sister, Gladys Fuhrman of Elmwood, one brother, Marvin (Jean) Fuhrman of Chisago City, MN, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Laura Stringer, Helen Welch, Esther Gifford and Clara Campton.
