Marie T Bates
Marie T. Bates, age 78 of Elmwood, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at her home in Elmwood.
Marie was born July 18, 1930 in the Township of Lima, rural Pepin County. She was the daughter of John and Angeline (Volger) Meixner. Marie married Bernard Bates on August 27, 1951 at the Holy Rosary Parish in Lima. They moved to a farm they purchased south of Elmwood. Marie also worked at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home for 25 years.
Marie was an active member of the Sacred Heart Alter and Rosary Society. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially playing cards with them. Marie was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone at anytime. She loved to bake goodies, crochet and make quilts for family and friends.
Marie is survived by her husband of 57 years Bernard, two sons, Gary (Marilyn) of Crystal Lake, MN, Timothy (Lynette) of Elmwood, two daughters, Maribeth (Steven) Brunner of Arkansaw, Gina (Chris) Zurek of Inver Grove Heights, MN, 10 grandchildren, Crystal, Harvest, Douglas, Jennifer, Ryan, Jason, Corey, Valerie, Eric and Marcus, three step grandchildren, Kayla, Scott and Kevin, three sisters, Dorothy Hallock, Bernadine Meixner and Helen Winget. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, James Meixner and one sister Florence Bauer.
