Virginia M Gilles

Virginia M. Gilles, age 89 of Plum City, died Thursday, April 25, 2019 in Hager City with her family by her side.

Virginia was born on January 9, 1930. She was the daughter of Oscar and Lucy (Schlosser) Pelke. Virginia grew up in Exile area, attended St. John Catholic School and graduated from Elmwood High School. After high school, Virginia worked in downtown St. Paul for several years. Virginia married Wayne Gilles on November 25, 1950 in Plum City. After marriage, Virginia and Wayne farmed and raised their family. Virginia was a life long member of the Plum City American Legion #365 Auxiliary, she was also active in the Plum City Senior Center and volunteered for the Plum City Election Board for many years.

Virginia enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards, gardening and tending to her raspberry bushes. Most of all, Virginia loved to spend time with family and friends.

Virginia is survived by her children; Steve (Rose), Jeff (Colleen), both of Hager City, David (Mark) of Appleton, Randy (Peter) of Shakopee, MN and Patricia (Thomas) Harding, of Chippewa Falls, 11 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one brother; Bob (Audrey) Pelke of Durand, four sisters; Mary (Jim) Wayne, Elaine (Marcellus “Mort”) Traun, Irene (Jim) Konsela, all of Durand and Lucille Mickelson of New Richmond, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Wayne, daughter; Cheryl Gilles, granddaughter; Jessika Gilles and two sisters; Catherine Zeh and Evelyn Coleman.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30AM Tuesday April 30, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plum City with Rev. Joseph Okine-Quartey. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00PM-7:00PM at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior at the church on Tuesday.
