Catherine A (Kay) Smith
Catherine A. (Kay) Smith, 86, of Durand, WI passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2008. She was born in Bayonne, NJ, on Nov. 15, 1922, to Patrick and Mary (Lyons) Deevy, Irish immigrants.
Kay married Lyle Smith on May 7, 1943. They lived in New Jersey and Wisconsin, finally settling in Durand. Kay was proud of her Irish ancestry and enjoyed playing cards, bingo and her weekly garage sale outings. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always special to her and will miss her very much.
Kay is survived by 5 sons, John (Laura) of Limestone, Maine, Kenneth (Mary Lynn) of The Woodlands, TX, Richard (Joyce) of Toms River, NJ, Lyle (Deborah) of Lanoka Harbor, NJ, and Thomas (Lisa) of Sarasota, FL; 2 daughters, Barbara (Duane) Meixner of Arkansaw, WI, and Kathleen (George) Davis of Toms River, NJ; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle, in 2007; 3 sisters, Alice, Mary (Meyer), and Anne (Weisensee), and a brother, (John).
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff at St. Ann’s unit of St. Elizabeth Nursing Home in Wabasha, MN, and Oakview Care Center in Durand, WI for the love and care extended to Kay over the last 5 years.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at St. Marys Church in Durand with the Fr. Jeffrey Burrill officiating.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Rhiel’s Funeral Chapel in Durand, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
