Raymond C. Doane age 84 of Menomonie,

Died: Wednesday December 24, 2008 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.

Ray was born September 22, 1924 in Sparta, WI. He was the son of Ralph and Mabel (Millard) Doane. Ray grew up in Sparta, graduating for Sparta High School in 1942. He started college in La Crosse but was soon drafted into the U.S. Army, where he ended up in the Signal Corps, serving in China and India during WW II. After the service Ray resumed his education at Stout State College, receiving his undergraduate degree in 1948 and his Masters Degree in 1950, and his PhD from Missouri University. Ray married Shirley Waseen August 7, 1948 in Superior. Ray and Shirley lived in various places such as Spokane, WA; St. Paul, MN; Columbia, MO; Ypsilanti, MI; Ellington, CT; Sarasosta, FL, before returning to Menomonie in 1978.

During his retirement years, Ray continued as a substitute teacher in the local school systems around Menomonie. He was very active at the Shirley Doane Senior Center. He was very proud of being a part of the Shirley Doane Senior Center Singers, which was founded by Shirley Doane. Ray was active with the singing group until March of this year. Ray also volunteered his time with the LSS Senior Program, which was also at the Shirley Doane Senior Center. For five and a half years, Ray lived with Becky and Pete Berg in rural Sand Creek until becoming a resident of the Dunn County Health Care Center in February of this year.

Ray is survived by a son Randall (Mary Ann) Doane of Austin, TX; a daughter, Linda Doane of Louisville, KY; two grandsons, Casey Doane of Duluth, MN; Keith Doane of Washington, DC; Loriann Doane (mother of Casey and Keith) of Faribault, MN; a sister, Belle May “Toni” (Donald) Sullivan of Sparta; a sister-in-law, Janice (Larry) Johnson of Simpsonville, S.C.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents his wife Shirley in 2003, two brothers, Kenneth and Edward Doane.
