Hazel M Berger

Hazel M. Berger, age 84 of Durand, died Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City with her family by her side.

Hazel was born June 20, 1937 at home in Eau Galle. She was the daughter of Edwin and Nettie (Jackson) Schutz. Hazel grew up in Eau Galle attended grade school in Eau Galle and graduated from Durand High School. After school, Hazel worked at the phone company in Eau Galle. Hazel married Joseph Berger on June 19, 1956 in Eau Galle. After marriage they lived in the Durand area where they raised their six children. For the last five years, Hazel has been a resident of the Plum City Care Center where she enjoyed all of their fun activities, the other residents and staff.

Hazel loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, playing cards and coloring.

The family would like to thank the Plum City Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for all of their loving care of Mom.

Hazel is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph; six children, Nancy (Pat) Wayne, Rod (Marcia), Mike (Luann), Steven (Missy), Audrey (Scott) Lieffring and Connie (Chris) Bauer, all of Durand; 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, two brothers, Glen Schutz and Neil Schutz; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Nettie Schutz; one brother, John Schutz and two sisters-in-law, Marlys Schutz and Karen Schutz.

Funeral Mass will be 11:30AM Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00PM-7:00PM Monday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Rhiel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Durand, is serving the family.

My favorite memory was when she babysat me and she would put on the Grease 45's and we would dance in the family room so to this day whenever i hear Grease music I am quick to remember where I 1st heard it and puts a big smile on my face!
