Charlotte M "Lottie" Schaffer

Charlotte M. “Lottie” Schaffer, age 81 of Elmwood, formerly of Clayton, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie.

Lottie was born on December 26, 1927. She was born and raised in Clayton. Lottie was the daughter of John and Charlotte (Harder) Kaehler. She graduated from Clayton High School in 1945. Lottie married Melvin “Mike” Schaffer in November of 1945 in Clayton. They made their home in Clayton. After the death of her husband in 1961, Lottie worked for the ASCS office in Barron, the Citizen’s State Bank in Clayton and the IRS in St. Paul, retiring in 1992. In 2003, Lottie moved to Elmwood to be closer to her family.

Lottie loved bird watching, gardening, she was an avid reader, doing crossword puzzles, playing yahtzee and spending time with family and friends.

Lottie is survived by her two sons, Gary (Diane) of St. Paul, MN and Michael (Deb) of Parker, CO, four daughters, Mary (Doug) Harmon of Roberts, Lana Schaffer of St. Paul, MN, Beverly (David) Glaus of Elmwood and Renae (Rod) Tinney of Osceola, 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three sisters, Clara Johnson of Glenwood City, Dorothy (Wes) Podany of Milwaukee and Mary Alice (Bob) Dickson of Fresno, CA, one brother Ed (Charlotte) Kaehler of Eau Claire, two sisters-in-law, Ethel Mae (Babe) Becker of Spooner and Irene Kaehler of St. Paul, MN and a brother-in-law, Larry (Joanne) Schaffer of Clayton. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Mike, three brothers, Ernie, Hank and Johnny Kaehler and three sisters, Sophie Place, Delores Timm and Elizabeth Kaehler.
