Raymond O. Schlosser, age 68 of Durand, died peacefully Friday, June 30, 2023 at his home in Durand.

Ray was born on July 3, 1954 in Durand. He was the son of Edward and Rosella (Bauer) Schlosser. Ray grew up on the Schlosser family farm that was established by his grandfather, Oscar in 1908. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Lima and graduated from Mondovi High School in 1972. While in high school, Ray enjoyed football where he was a highly decorated athlete and earned the nickname, Tank. After high school, Ray worked on the family farm with his father and brother Steve. Ray married Ruth Benson in 1977 the first love of his life. Together they had three children Reed, Troy and Courtney. Ruth died as a result of cancer in 1996. In 1998, Ray got together with his life-long friend, Ruby (Eileen) Benson, his “Gem”. They have been life partners and greatest friends since.

Ray enjoyed fireworks, hunting, golfing, chess and bowling. He served on the Durand Rural Fire Department Board and the Mondovi Fire Department Board. Ray served as a Supervisor for the Town of Canton for many years. He loved his time on the farm and spending time with his grandchildren. Most of all, Ray loved spending time being around the ones he loved.

Ray is survived by his children Troy of Mondovi and Courtney (Jordan) Giedd of Ellsworth, significant other, Ruby Benson of Durand, grandchildren Ellis, Tessa and Benton, his grandpup Mika, siblings Judy Ecker, Ed (Joan), Evonne (John) Steger, Steve (JoAnn), Mary Timm and Terese (Mark) Nickeas, brother-in-law Mike (Deb) Bloss, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, son Reed in infancy, sisters Pat Bloss and Ruth Ann, sister-in-law Pat Schlosser, brother-in-law Reid Timm and nephew Max Timm.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00PM-7:00PM Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand.
