Richard P Hanson

Loving husband, father and grandfather Rick {Richard} Paul Hanson passed away unexpectedly and peacefully August 28th, 2023 at the age of 69 in Rochester MN surrounded by his family who already misses him and will honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest and always sticking together.

Rick was born May 27th, 1954 in Arkansaw, WI to Oscar Hans Hanson and Wilma Inez {Caturia} Hanson. He attended grade school in Arkansaw, WI and later graduated High School in Pepin, WI. While in high school he worked as a bartender a Buzzy’s Bar in Pepin and after graduation he started working for Neal Auth doing electrical work. He spent a few years doing more electrical work in Durand, WI with Arnie Bilderback and when he was ready, he went to work at Moberg Electric in Barron, WI.

He had gone back to school and obtained his Master Electricians License and In 1990 he moved to Bloomer, WI and worked for Jerry Wolf before owning and operating Hanson Electric independently for 16 years until he retired.

In 1976 he met the love of his life Lily at the Prairie Inn in Durand. They were engaged by fall and married in less than a year on December 18th, 1976.  They spent the early part of their life residing in Durand, WI, and later moved the family to Bloomer where they live currently after almost 47 years together.

Together they have 4 children. Daughter Darlene {Loran} Zwiefelhofer, Daughter Christine {Jason} Rego, Daughter Jessica Edinger {Frank Brown}, and Son Derek Hanson.

He has 8 grandchildren, Emily, Elijah, Kylie, Caleb, Hannah, Braelyn, Brooks and Nolan.

Also survived by brother-in-law Jerome Bien

Preceded in death by, Mother Wilma Caturia, Father Oscar Hanson, Sister Marge Bien, Sister Myrna Sosnoski, In-Laws Bernard and Darlene Bauer, Brother-in-law Robert Bauer

He loved hunting, spending time with family and the Stewart’s at the cabin in Pepin. He had a passion for fishing and was known to tie his own flies and boy was he picky. Rick also loved a good golf game back in the day and couldn’t wait to spend time with his golfing buddies and get the grills going any day of the week.

Rick had a laugh that you couldn’t help but laugh along with. His face lit up and you could almost feel it coming. He always had a story to tell and when he started talking you quickly knew to settle in because it was definitely going to take a while. He always had a bit of advice to share even if he just had to shoot it from the heart. He was the dad that hurt when his kids hurt and loved his wife more than life himself. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten by all of us who were blessed enough to know him.

Prayer Services will be 3:30PM Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand. Visitation will be from 4:00PM-7:00PM at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand.
