Gerald L Hartung

Gerald L. “Jerry” Hartung, age 89 of Elmwood, died Monday, December 11, 2023 at his home in rural Elmwood after watching a disappointing Packer Game.

Jerry was born on November 16, 1934 at home, one half mile down the road from his current home. He was the son of Frederick and Florence (Styer) Hartung. Jerry married Marjorie Kasel on May 4, 1957 in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings, MN. Jerry farmed with his wife Marjorie near Eau Galle. Together they enjoyed collecting, restoring and displaying antiques.

Jerry served as a director for over 20 years on the board of West Wisconsin Telecom. He also served God and his church. Jerry could be counted on to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He appreciated long country drives, clean windows, the Green Bay Packers, and ice cream with homemade chocolate sauce. He will be missed by all.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 66½ years, Marjorie, six children, Ruth (Jack) Luebker, Jerry Joe (Martha), Tom (Jeanne), Jeff (Margaret), Steve (Jill), Beth (Kazuya Agata) Hartung, 17 grandchildren, 22.5 great grandchildren, sister, Joan Lewis, brother, Richard (Kris), sister-in-law, Lorraine Hartung, maternal aunt Annabelle McClelland, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Florence, brother, Donald (Rosemary), sisters, Lorraine (Leonard) Weber, Jean (George) Weber, Bernadine (Ray) Asher and Elaine (Delbert) Weber, brother-in-law, John Lewis and sister-in-law, Joann Hartung.

Memorial Mass will be 11:00AM Monday, December 18, 2023 at St. Henry Catholic Church in Eau Galle with Rev. Jerry Hoeser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00PM-7:00PM Sunday at Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. A Celebration of Life will be held at Molly’s On Main in Plum City following the Mass.
