Bernard F. Danzinger

Bernard F. Danzinger

Bernard Francis Danzinger, age 91 of Durand, died Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Homeplace in Durand with his family by his side.

Bernard was born July 5, 1932, to Joseph and Rose (Meixner) Danzinger in the Township of Lima, rural Durand.  Bernard grew up in the Town of Lima and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School at Lima.  After high school, Bernard joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged with a Purple Heart in 1955.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 181 of Durand, a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Bernard married Donna Stai on May 30, 1959, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima.  After marriage they lived and farmed on the Danzinger Homestead where they raised their five children.  After farming Bernard started Danzinger Construction along with his sons until retirement.

Bernie loved gardening, especially corn, the Green Bay Packers, playing cards with anyone who would play, and dancing.

His mischievous grin always gave him away when he was planning his shenanigans, “aka” cool whip.

He had a special way with everyone he met and was always the life of the party.

Bernard is survived by his children, Steve (Rita) of Black River Falls, Jodie (Mike) Jernigan of Enterprise, AL, Mike of Durand, Tom of Menomonie, Jean (Don) Hughes of Dunnellon, FL; his grandchildren, Cortney, Shawn, Joesph, Ryan, Patrick, Rachael, Michaela, Elaina, Tracie, Danielle and Matt, 16 great grandchildren and three more on the way; two sisters, Ruth Pittman of Durand and Judy Danzinger of Eau Claire.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Donna in 2020, a sister Dolores Flesch; two brothers, Ralph and Jerome.

Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Wednesday March 13, 2024, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima- rural Durand.  Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
