William R Schauls

William R. Schauls, age 94 of Durand, died Monday, May 20, 2024 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City, with his family by his side.

Bill was born on December 28, 1929 in Durand. He was the son of Julius and Clara Schauls. Bill grew up in Durand, attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Durand High School in 1947. After high school, Bill joined the U.S. Navy Reserves. At young age, Bill joined the family business and in 1955 he along with his father, Julius, started Schauls Gas in Durand. On January 29, 1951, Bill married the love of his life, Valetta “Pee Wee” Norrish, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. After marriage they lived in Durand the rest of their lives where they raised their family. 

Bill enjoyed traveling with Pee Wee on cruises, spending time at their cabin and wintering in Florida. He also liked to go fishing, hunting, golfing and bowling. Most of all, Bill loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife of 73 years, Pee Wee, children, Diane (Tim) Weber of Birchwood, Bob (Jane) Schauls of Durand, son-in-law, Mike Hayden of Durand, six grandchildren, Stacy (Kris), Jackie (Joe), Brian, Kristy (Jason), Heather (Lucas) and Jon (Tiffany), 17 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Clara, daughter, Sue Hayden and sister, Mary Ann Thompson.

Memorial Mass will be 11:30AM Thursday, May 23, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand with Rev. John Zweber officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until the time of services at the church on Thursday.
