Delores A Smith

We are sad to announce the passing of Delores Ann (LaBrec) Smith on May 28, 2024 at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in La Crosse, WI.

Delores was born on June 20, 1935 to Charles and Amelia (Youngman) LaBrec. She graduated from Arkansaw High School and married Earl Smith on August 9, 1955. They lived in Wabasha, MN until they moved to Durand, WI and raised their family together there until Earl’s death on May 29, 1978.

Delores was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Durand, WI. She worked very hard in various retail positions, as front-desk assistant at Dr. Stelmack’s Dentist office, in Medical Records at Chippewa Valley Hospital until she moved to Little Chute where she retired at a tax preparer’s office at the great age of 70. She then moved back to Durand to be close to her immediate family and enjoy her retirement.

Delores enjoyed baking, crocheting, reading, growing flowers and especially enjoyed being part of the Red Hat Society when she lived in Little Chute.

Delores is survived by her three children Vickie (Kent) Naragon of Dunedin, FL, Karen Knox of La Crosse, WI and Gary E. (Lori) Smith of Urne, WI, five grandchildren (Diana Smith Webber, Amy Smith, Jimmy Green, Jennifer (Jake) Buttke and Tina (Mark) Cannon), 13 great grandchildren (Amelia, Ana, Eastin, Ethan, Eli, Kayla, Jepsyn, Jax, Kaylee, Ashley, Maria, Colton and Jace), two brothers, Al (Marilyn) LaBrec and Don (Mutz) LaBrec and many loved nieces and nephews. She is preceeded in death by her parents, husband (Earl), sister Shirley and three brothers, Bob, Lyle and Doug LaBrec.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00AM Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand with Rev. Emmanuel Asamoah-Bekoe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Memorials are preferred in Delores’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Mayo Hospice in La Crosse, WI.

    I remember Delores fondly. I believe I worked with her daughter, Vicci at Nelson Telephone when I was a senior involved with a work study program. I remember that Vicci had moved from Durand to Florida to work at Disney Land and envied her. May Delores rest in peace.
