Patrick J Hayden

Patrick J. Hayden, age 85 of the Town of Albany, rural Pepin County, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2009 at the Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

Patrick was born March 3, 1924 to Florian and Theresa (Brunner) Hayden in the Town of Albany, rural Pepin County which was always his home. He attended the first eight years of school at the White Block School and graduated from there June 4, 1938. Patrick then attended the Durand High School and graduated in 1944, where he was in track and on the basketball team. He was raised by his mother due to his father passing away when he was two years old. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and received an Honorable Discharge May 29, 1946. On January 30, 1965, Patrick married Laura Mae Saam of Mondovi and together they raised three children. After the service he started working at the US Rubber/Uniroyal Tire Plant in Eau Claire where he worked for 40 years retiring April 11, 1987. He also had a beef cattle farm. Patrick was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rock Falls. Patrick was elected to the Durand School Board where he served for 22 years and retired in 2000. During his time on the school board, he also served 11 years on the CESA 11 Board in Turtle Lake.

Patrick is survived by his wife Laura, three children, Daniel (Elizabeth) of Rock Falls, Patricia Hayden of Rock Falls and Debra (Mark) Gehrke of Elk Mound, five granddaughters, Taylor and Brett Hayden, Halle, Shawna and Carley Gehrke, one sister-in-law, Betty Hayden and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Louis, Nick and Herman Hayden and two sisters, Gertrude Brantner and Mary Sykora.
