Marie E. Bauer

Marie E. Bauer

Marie Elizabeth Bauer, age 80 of Menomonie, WI, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Mayo Clinic Health System Eau Claire Hospital surrounded by her husband, son and daughter.

Marie was born on April 5, 1945, during a spring snowstorm in Plum City, WI. Marie “Mitzi” was the daughter of Bruno and Elizabeth (Krings) Gansluckner and grew up on the family dairy farm. She graduated from Plum City High School and moved to St. Paul, MN, where she worked for Walman Optical in the Lowry Medical Arts Building.

On June 26, 1965, Marie married Duane J. Bauer at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plum City, WI. The couple made their home in Menomonie, where they raised their family. Marie supported Duane in his insurance agency for several years before becoming Manager of the Menomonie office for the Eau Claire Press Company, where she worked for over 20 years before retiring.

Marie’s greatest joy in life was her family. The love, wisdom, and life lessons she shared with her children and grandchildren were her most enduring gifts. Her strength, kindness, and grace left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She had an extraordinary ability to connect with people. Whether with family, friends, or strangers, Marie made those around her feel seen, heard, and cared for. Her joyful presence, attentive heart, and generous spirit brought light to the lives she encountered. Her steadfast faith guided her, and she led by example – living with compassion, courage, and gratitude. Marie’s legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Marie is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Duane; son, Russell (Lynne) Bauer of Chippewa Falls, WI; daughter, Jodi (Jim) Cranston of Duluth, MN; brother, Tony (Pam) Gansluckner of Plum City, WI; sister, Beckie (Jim) Boigenzahn of New Brighton, MN; grandchildren, Andrew, Abbie (Will), Olivia, and Emma; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barb (Tom) Imdieke; and brother, Larry (Pat) Gansluckner.

The family is deeply appreciative for the loving care and attention that Marie received from the Mayo Clinic team throughout her yearlong cancer journey. The extraordinary support that was given brought both comfort and encouragement during the most difficult days.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie, with Rev. John Mano officiating, joined by Rev. John Zweber. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery – Lima, rural Durand.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
