George L Baier

George L. Baier, 92 of Durand, passed away Sat. Aug. 8, 2009 at Plum city Care Center, Plum City, WI.

George was born Feb. 22, 1917 in Eau Galle, WI, to Charles and Olivia Baier.

After graduating from Lima High School in 1935 George helped his Dad farm and he worked for his uncle at the feed mill in Eau Galle. In 1940 George purchased a farm just east of his home farm where he continued his farming vocation in Eau Galle until the late 1960’s. On August 3, 1973 George married Catherine (Schlossser) Malloy and moved to Durand. George enjoyed carpentry work building and remodeling homes until he retired in 1981. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, NFO, the Coop, Eau Galle Sportsman Club, and St. Henry’s Catholic Church. Some of George’s many favorite hobbies included fishing, reading, playing cards, camping, rock-hounding, and traveling. George will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and storytelling.

George is survived by Catherine his wife of 36 years, step-daughter Patty Malloy; step granddaughter Tracy (Tom) Fleck; 3 step great grand children Michael, Conner, and Sonja; Sisters and brother: Dorothy (Robert) Miller, Jack (Kris) Baier, and Sharon (Gary) Smith, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Olivia Baier, brother Don Baier, and sisters Bernice O’Connell and Rita Poeschel.
