Wayne L. Baier, age 83 of Eau Galle,

Born: September 8, 1924

Died peacefully on December 30, 2007 in his sleep with his family at his side at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood.

Wayne was the son of Joseph and Bertha (Schober) Baier in Eau Galle, Dunn Co. He spent the rest of his life in the Eau Galle area. Wayne attended grade school in Eau Galle and graduated from Durand High School in 1941, where he was active in football and basketball. After high school, Wayne attended to the Stout Institute for two years before joining his father in farming. Wayne married Hester Soden May 7, 1946 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Eau Galle. After marriage they lived and farmed in Eau Galle the rest of his life.

Wayne was a lifetime member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church where he served as a lector, usher and Eucharistic Minister. His main interest was his herd of Registered Holstein Cattle. He took great pride in his cattle and sold breeding stock to many foreign countries. Wayne was a 4-H Leader for 25 years; he also served on the Sire Committee of Tri-State Breeders and a member of the Holstein Association on State and National levels. In 1980, Wayne was recognized as the State Holstein Breeder of the year. Wayne coached basketball at St. Henry’s for many years and his teams won many trophies. He was an avid Packer fan. Wayne will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hester, one daughter, Dorothy (Pete) Lehmann of Elmwood, three sons, Roger (Orpha) of Eau Galle, Dennis (Beth) of Monrovia, CA and Patrick (Ruth) of Mt. Horeb, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, one sister, Marie Shafer of Apple Valley, MN and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Leonard Baier and one sister-in-law, Janet Baier.
