Gordon H Rothe
Gordon H. Rothe, age 82 of Elmwood, passed away August 18, 2009 at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand from Heart Disease.
Gordon was born on June 25, 1927 in St. Paul, MN. He was the son of Gustav and Elvera (Schultz) Rothe. He lived with his family in Millville, MN, Ellsworth, WI, Maiden Rock, WI and finally settling in Waverly, WI to farm. Gordon was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plum City for 65 years and during that time he was very active, serving on many boards.
Gordon married Harriet Johnson on April 14, 1956 in Maiden Rock and had 53 great years together. They were partners in farming and milk hauling until his retirement. Gordon wore many hats in his life including bartender, farmer, mailman, milkman and vehicle transporter for Boyer Ford. His passion for new and old cars and tractors ran deep and he drove his 1937 Ford with great pride whenever he could. Gordon loved to dance, be with his family and play jokes on his friends, but work was his life. The value of his day was measured by how much he accomplished.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Harriet, three daughters, Renee Gilles of Prescott, Jan (Jeff) Krause of Elmwood and Kim (Darin) Ofstie of Baldwin, four grandsons who were the light of his life; Mitchell and Kyle Krause, Connor and Keegan Ofstie, sister-in-law, Barbara Sand, two nieces, Amy (Sand) Schmitt and Elizabeth (Sand) Nelson, a nephew Bob Sand, cousins, Terry (Thea) Schultz of Apple Valley, MN, Marcella Peterson of Escondido, CA, other relatives and a large family of dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Bernice, son-in-law, Patrick Gilles (2006) and father and mother-in-law, Sid and Grace Johnson.
