Gerald G Moseler

Gerald "Gerry" George Moseler, 69 of Menomonie passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Gerry had been diagnosed in January, 2008 with a cancer of the blood called Multiple Myeloma.

He was born on January 16, 1940 to Gertrude Bucheger Moseler and George Moseler in

Glidden, WI. He attended elementary school in Ontonagon, MI, Glidden, WI and Wisconsin Rapids, WI. He graduated from Wisconsin Rapids Assumption High School in 1958 with All Conference honors in football and basketball. He went on to attend Loras College in Dubuque, IA on a football scholarship and then transferred to St. Norbert College in West DePere, WI where he graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and All-American honors in football. He married Sharon Rubens at St. Hubert's Catholic Church, Rosiere, WI in 1963. He received a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from UW Stout, Menomonie in 1967. Gerry taught and coached at Wausau Newman High School, Assumption High School, Wisconsin Rapids and was an assistant football coach at Menomonie High School for 35 years. He was a guidance counselor at Menomonie High School for 10 years and part owner in the Peterson Lumber business in Menomonie. Gerry was awarded a 30 year WIAA coaching award and inducted into the St. Norbert College football Hall of Fame in October of 1999. In January, 2007 he was inducted into the Assumption High School football Hall of Fame.

In 1972 he went into the insurance business full time representing National Guardian Life, Madison, WI until the time of his death. He brokered with Lincoln Financial Services, Madison, WI. He qualified for the Top Producer/Leader Conferences with NGL throughout his career. He was chosen Agent of the Year for the Northwest Regional Agency and in 1997 received the prestigious NGL Larry J. Larson Award.

The highlight of his life has been his family, including his wife of 46 years, five children and 14 grandchildren. He will be remembered for his love of youth and developing their character and football skills. He dedicated his life to service of others in the insurance business and will be remembered for the many lives he touched. He had a very strong

faith and was very devoted to the Blessed Mother. He loved sports of all kinds and enjoyed competing. He was a very avid Packer, Brewer, UW Badger and Menomonie

Indians fan. He especially loved telling a good joke and playing a good game of cards.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, sons; Christopher (Athena), Eau Claire, Michael (Amy), Menomonie; daughters, Melissa (Chuck) Henry, Sun Prairie; Maria (Todd) Meister Middleton; Meg (John) Hanley, Middleton; 14 grandchildren; Matthew, Daniel and Andrew Moseler; Peyton, Ashley and Lauren Henry; Jack, Gavin and Rose Meister; step granddaughter, Ashton Knight, Connor, Cade and Maura Hanley; Camden Moseler; a brother, John Moseler, Big Bend; sisters, Joanne (William) Gardner, Milwaukee, Patricia Shanks, Antioch, IL, Ellen (Dave) Hertel, Littleton, CO and Teresa (Johnnie) Wisener, Chula Vista, CA and several very special nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his father, George "Red" Moseler in 1958 and his mother, Gertrude Moseler Gisch in 2003, his brothers-in-law: Charles Shanks, Hank Bellows, Lon Wiggins, Robert Rubens, Russell Rubens (Bernice) and Lee Rubens; a sister-in-law, Margie Moseler and nephew Jay Shanks.

Mass of Celebration will be 11:00 AM Monday September 21, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 921 Wilson Ave.,Menomonie with Rev. Tom Krieg, Rev.Edmund. Klimek, Rev. Bernard McGarty and Rev. Charles Blecha officiating. A private family burial will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery, Menomonie, WI.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. There will be a special reserved area in the church for former football players.

A Gerry Moseler Memorial Scholarship Fund will be set up in his memory and given annually to a senior high school athlete exemplifying Gerry’s work ethic and love of football.
