James J Gilles

James J. Gilles, age 83 of Plum City, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie.

Jim was born on February 11, 1926 in Plum City. He was the son of Thomas and Maud (Van Nortwick) Gilles. He grew up in and around the Plum City area and attended Plum City Schools. Due to the death of his mother, he left school and worked on the farm. Jim married Wilhelmina Pittman on September 29, 1948 in Arkansaw. After marriage, they farmed and raised their eight children in the Town of Union, where he remained the rest of his life.

Jim loved woodworking, refinishing and restoring furniture, making wine, gardening and his pride and joy were his raspberries. He loved to cook, and read through cookbooks to find a new recipe he wanted to try. Most of all, Jim loved to spend time with family and friends.

Jim is survived by his five daughters, Jan (George) Ryan of Fullerton, CA, Sharon Gilles of Hastings, MN, Gail (Terry) Smith of Plum City, Barb (Terry) Mattson of Bay City, and Carol Amy (Dave) of Hastings, MN, two sons, Tom (Julie) Gilles of Plum City, Joe (Judy) Gilles of Arkansaw, one daughter-in-law, Amy Gilles of Ellsworth, 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wilhelmina and one son, William Gilles.
