Elizabeth J. “Betty” Lauer, age 67 of Eau Galle
Born: October 16, 1941
Died: October 5, 2009, peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Betty was the daughter of Chris and Johanna (Geraets) Helmueller. She was born in Eau Galle and lived her entire life there. Betty was baptized and confirmed at St. Henry’s Catholic Church where she worshipped. She was active in the choir, a leader of prayer and a sacristan, where she created beautiful altar arrangements. Betty loved flowers and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her garden with others. Betty was most proud of her family and cherished time spent with them. In 1971, she married Gary Lauer, her best friend. Together they raised five children in a house with one bathroom. Betty was a wonderful cook and baker who took great pride in hostessing family and friends.
Betty retired from the Durand School District in 2006 after 14 years working with children with special needs. She loved the children she taught and the teachers she assisted.
Betty is survived by her husband Gary, three daughters, JoAnn (Mike) Vruwink of Weston, Jaclynn (Tim) Taylor of Menomonie and Nicole (Denver) Applehans of Okinawa, Japan, two sons, Randy (Linda) of Marshfield and Michael (Theresa) of Menomonie, eleven grandchildren, one great granddaughter, two sisters, Christie(Roger) Pittman of Menomonie and Delores Pittman of Durand, two brothers, Bernard (Patty) Helmueller of South Carolina and Charles (Rose) Helmueller of Hudson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
