Beulah M Schlosser

Beulah M Schlosser

Beulah M. (King) Schlosser, age 94, died peacefully Monday, November 16, 2009, at the Red Cedar Medical Center after a two week illness. Family members and RCMC’s caring doctors, nurses and staff supported her on her journey to eternal rest.

Born September 2, 1915, in rural Arkansaw near Porcupine Valley, Beulah was the younger of two children of Godfrey J. King and Julia A. (Latew) King. She attended grade school at Sunnybrook School in rural Arkansaw, WI. She spent two years of High School at Lima Sacred Heart and graduated from the Arkansaw High School in 1933. She earned a teaching degree from Eau Claire State, now UW-Eau Claire, doing her practice teaching at the Little Red School House near Eau Claire.

Beulah taught at the Forest Vale School in rural Arkansaw before marrying Dennis Stephen Schlosser in Plum City on June 15, 1937. They operated a dairy farm in rural Eau Galle, living there for over seventy years of their marriage. For the past two years she lived in Menomonie at Autumn Village and American Lutheran Home.

Mother of nine children, Beulah was a homemaker, active in the farming operation, and very active and involved in community and church work. Some of her many achievements include serving on the Dunn County Red Cross Board of Directors for 35 years. During that time, she initiated and ran the Lake Eau Galle swimming lessons program for many years. A member of the Altar Society at St. Henry’s in Eau Galle, she served in many leadership roles at the local and deanery levels. She was a Cub Scout Leader, a numerous blood donor, a member of the Pepin County Historical Society and drove her children to Catholic grade school for many years. Her genealogy research provided information to many about the King, Latew, Denning, and Schlosser families.

She will long be remembered for her many talents and interests including oil paint on canvas, winning an Art Show at Autumn Village at age 93. She was also known for her writing skills to family members and pen pals in other countries as well as her autobiography titled “Reminiscences.” Her collections include spoons collected from travels, seashells collected from beaches, a huge button collection with membership in the Button Club, and a large Santa collection. She was also an avid seamstress, sewing clothing for herself and her family.

Beulah and Dennis took three world-wide tours. They also enjoyed traveling to the Ozarks, Florida, and California with stopovers to see children, grandchildren, and other relatives. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and the seasonal harvesting. She loved picking all kinds of berries and challenged anyone to pick faster or more than she could. Dancing, golfing, bowling, and fishing were other favorite activities.

Beulah’s congeniality, positive attitude, problem solving ability, tenacity, and unconditional love will be missed by family and friends, along with her smile and love of children and animals (especially cats and dogs).

Beulah is survived by eight children: Patricia (Mike) Kittilstad of Chatham, Ill., Denise (Sig) Weiss of Durand, Donna (Doug) Weber of Menomonie, Gene (Mary) Schlosser of Menomonie, Tom (Sherry) Schlosser of Eau Galle, Sue (Jerry) Lolwing of Platteville, Julie (Dan) Bower of Durand, and Peter (Pat) Schlosser of Menomonie; 31 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Sally (Wayne) Schlosser and Katherine (Bud) Schlosser; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, on 2/27/08; an infant son, Edgar; a great-grandson, Austin Hansen Skiby; her sister, Joyce (Carl) Fedie; and her parents.
