Ambrose B Sagstetter

Ambrose B. Sagstetter age 88 of Elmwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 22, 2009 at the Clairemont Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center in Eau Claire, due to complications from heart valve replacement.

Ambrose was born December 7, 1921 in the Township of Rock Elm, Pierce Co. rural Elmwood. He was the son of Benjamin & Tressa (Traynor) Sagstetter and grew up on the family farm near Exile. Ambrose attended and graduated from Elmwood High School, class of 1940. He married Fannet Gleason July 28, 1942. Ambrose worked as a welder in California. He returned to Elmwood and bought a farm in Arkansaw Valley where farmed and hauled milk. Ambrose bought a farm in the Rock Elm Township in 1952 where he sold farm handling equipment for over 25 years. In 1977 they moved into the Village of Elmwood where he has remained the rest of his life.

Ambrose was an active lifetime member of the Elmwood Rod & Gun Club. He served on the Town Board of Rock Elm and was also a member of the Menomonie Loyal Order of Moose, #1584. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing cards, making wooden crafts, canes and gardening. He spent several winters in Arizona. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially barbequing.

Ambrose is survived by four sons, David of Elmwood; Stephen (Marjory) of River Falls; Wayne of St. Paul, MN; Jerome (Jean) of Eau Claire; a daughter Ramona (Dennis) Schneider of Elmwood; nine grandchildren, Tanya (Kevin) Kulig; Renee (Jim) VonBerge; Angie (Todd) Wordell; Tom, Bob & Mark (Jessica) Sagstetter; Donna (Anthony) Guedea; Emily (Jim) Lund; Ray (Molly) Schneider; 12 great grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa, Breanna, Andrew, Brooklyn, Alexsandra, Tyler, Abigail, Rebecca, Elianna, Aaron, Rebecca; one step grandson, Michael; two sisters, Beatrice (Paul) Axelsen of Menomonie; Bernice Marte of St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law, Leonard (Lorraine) Asher of Colfax.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fannet in 1979; sisters, Florence (Ervin) Freund and Evelyn Hartung; brother-in-law, Elmer Marte; sister-in-law, Audrey Asher and a special friend Lydia Riddle.
