Amanda J. Westra age 38 of Nelson
Died: Wednesday January 2, 2008 at her home with God in her Heart, in the Township of Canton, Buffalo County, rural Nelson.
Amanda was born March 5, 1969 in Durand. She was the daughter of Jerry A. and Arlene (Kitchner) Bauer and grew up in the Lima community. She graduated from Durand High School in 1987. Amanda attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota, majoring is Psychology. After college she taught for special needs children in the twin cities. Amanda married Eric Westra October 17, 1998. After marriage they moved to a hobby farm near Nelson. Amanda continued with education and did substitute teaching around this area. She also taught at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire for a short time. Amanda then served as Principal for the Tri-Parish Elementary Schools of Holy Rosary Lima & St. Mary’s in Durand and Sacred Heart of Mondovi. After the birth of her son, Riley, Amanda was a stay at home Mom and helped her husband with his business.
Amanda is survived by her husband, Eric; her son, Riley; her parents Jerry A. and Arlene Bauer of Durand; three sisters, Laurie (Tom) McQuillan of Boyd; Sheila (Gregg) Warren of River Falls; Rose (Lee) Prissel of Rochester, MN; two brothers, Eric (Deb) Bauer of West Salem; Chris (Luann) Bauer of Mondovi; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Beth Anderson.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Gilda Radner Foundation for Ovarian Cancer.
